MERN solution for Lighting Design’s online platform to enhance customer engagement and drive business growth - Case Study
Lighting Design provides premium lighting and design products, and the company prides itself on offering high-quality products and exceptional service. They came up with the latest initiative, the Lighting Design Internet department to improve customer engagement, which aimed at using advanced technology to create more personalized experiences for customers. Our role was to help build a dynamic online platform using the MERN technology stack (MongoDB, Express.js, React, Node.js), giving salespeople, trade partners, and admins powerful tools like personalized wishlists, role management, and simplified collaboration. This new platform boosted customer satisfaction and operational efficiency, contributing to the company's growth.
Lighting Design has been a trusted name in the lighting and design industry since 1997. They are known for their high-quality products and outstanding customer service. Catering to homeowners, contractors, and interior designers across the U.S., the company operates three physical showrooms and a growing online store. Their team is highly skilled, with certifications from the American Lighting Association and interior design expertise. The company’s mission is to bring comfort and beauty into homes, offering personalized lighting solutions to suit each client’s needs.
The main goal of this project was to create a powerful online platform that would streamline operations and increase customer engagement. We focused on helping admins manage salespeople’s (SPs) and trade partners’ (TPs) permissions and activities more effectively, which created a well-organized workflow. We also aimed to give SPs and TPs the ability to create and manage personalized wishlists for customers, improving the shopping experience. The platform was also designed to give TPs and SPs the tools to help customers select the right lighting products, offering better overall support. This collaboration between salespeople and trade partners was meant to drive higher sales and profitability. Simplifying the process of managing wishlists, from adding to updating or removing items, was a priority for smoother interactions. The platform was built using the MERN technology stack, ensuring it was scalable, efficient, and user-friendly.

We designed a flexible role management system that gave admins complete control over who could do what on the platform. Admins could add or remove salespeople and trade partners and link each trade partner with at least one salesperson for accountability. Custom user roles allowed specific access to manage wishlists and customer information.
Our collaboration with the Lighting Design Company focused on a customer-first approach, ensuring regular communication to align with their goals. We encountered challenges, such as allowing trade partners to log in to Shopify from the platform. To address this, we developed a secure, hidden authentication system using Node.js and React. We also navigated difficulties with Shopify’s GraphQL API by breaking the integration into smaller steps using modular queries. These solutions created a secure, efficient system using the latest MERN stack technology.
The new platform revolutionized how Lighting Design Company engaged with customers and internal teams. The wishlist system empowered salespeople and trade partners to offer personalized product recommendations, strengthening customer relationships. Admins could efficiently manage roles and users, saving time and improving resource allocation. Trade partners, wholesalers, accessed location-based discounts via Shopify Admin, allowing them to offer competitive prices while maintaining profit margins. Customers benefited too, enjoying extra savings when purchasing through trade partners. This win-win system boosted customer satisfaction by 25%, contributing significantly to business success.
