PHP Website for NGO 'BE BOLD, BE BALD' – Fundraiser for Cancer Patients

Client Brief

The major requirement of the project was to develop a donation system for the cancer event (Be Bold, Be Bald!) scheduled on 2 November 2012. The client demanded a system that users could use to register themselves online in order to participate in the event and raise donations for their preferred beneficiaries. Users can also join teams or create their own teams to raise funds as a group. Each user should have a profile page that should allow them to manage donation-related settings and send messages to their sponsors. Sponsors can simply visit the site and fund a team or participants via an online/offline donation form. The site also contains a shopping cart system that users can use to purchase merchandize related to the event like t-shirts, caps, bottles, bracelets etc.

Our Endeavor

Keeping in mind the different requirements, we have developed the site using social engine as the base platform. The enhancements have been done through a custom social engine theme accompanied by a series of custom social engine modules. The backbone of the site is the donation and fund-raising section. Users can register with the site as a participant for the cancer fund-raising event and can raise funds for the beneficiary organizations. Users can also form groups online and create profiles. Sponsors can raise funds online through the Donation form.

We have integrated PayPal Pro payment gateway for payment transactions on the site. A notable feature is the option given to users to have personal URLs for their profiles, which they can share with Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Google plus. We have also integrated and customized ShareThis plug-in to meet the Send an Email requirements of the site. We have also developed a custom e-commerce module using social engine for the site. This feature comprises advanced functionality that offers a luxurious shopping experience to the user and an easy-to-maintain interface for the admin.

Additionally we have developed a custom module to allow users to view marketplace items, place orders, avail discounts etc. We have also developed an admin capability that will help in deciding the price of a product based on its quantity. It will further assist in the dynamic calculation of tax based on order values and determining special price for bulk orders. In addition, admin can also add flat and percentage-based discount coupons, free shipping to users etc. Throughout the project, we have organized and managed the tasks and modules on a project management tool to track the progress at each and every step.
